The EDL
GROUP based on ten years of working
with adult learners in workplaces, post-school
settings and unemployed adult initiatives, have
found the inability of learners to cope with
fundamental skills at post-school level gravely
effects core skill learning.
The EDL GROUP has developed
a structured system of interactive multi-media
learning called EDUTRAC to
remediate Maths, English and Science needs in
a post-school environment. The EDUTRAC
System includes an extensive learner and learning
management database plus course material to
meet specific learner skill deficits in these
Fundamental Skill areas.
The South African Skill shortage crisis is a
result of our apartheid history. Historical
disadvantage has affected Mathematical literacy,
English communication (language, reading and
writing) as well as the Sciences countrywide.
This in turn has affected job skills and employability.
The EDUTRAC System enables
each individual post-school learner to establish
their specific fundamental needs through assessment
and testing. This process establishes each individuals
actual level of competence and confidence regarding
Maths, English and science through a series
of tests. The system then directs a learner
to an entry point of actual competence level
in the EDUTRAC System. The
ultimate outcome for the learner is step by
step building of fundamental skills in an empowering
process of learning. Once fundamental skills
are in place core skill learning becomes effective.
The extensive range of learning is housed in
a technology driven management system which
means learning can take place:
• on-line (as it is in HTML
Format) for more advanced learners
• in a facilitator directed, blended learning
process using the technology on site.
All progress is tracked and recorded in the
EDUTRAC System resulting in confident, capable
learners in post-school situations.
