The EDL
Group has developed a structured system of blended
e-learning called Edutrac. This has
course material that can be used for:
|
| • |
performance directed on-the-job
training |
| • |
employment skills training |
| • |
learning support and upgrade |
| • |
skill upgrade (maths, English,
science) in educational institutions.. |
|
All the material is embedded in an extensive
management system.

EDUTRAC
– THE EDL BLENDED E-LEARNING SYSTEM
EDUTRAC has been well
researched and tried and tested over ten
years as a learner-centred learning process.
It can make a difference to long term
ongoing development by providing short
to medium term results.
EDUTRAC focuses on the
process of learning in an ICT context.
EDUTRAC is registered
with the Umalusi and Department of Education
for Schools. EDUTRAC
is aligned with SAQA and is SETA accredited
for Workplaces.
The blended e-learning methodology has
been chosen as the EDUTRAC way
because EDUTRAC learning
addresses skill needs on an individual
basis in the context of various learning
environments.
|
 |
| The challenge to investigate the
shortfalls and needs of learners
based on their achieved educational
grade and/or the job they are employed
in, or job they hope to have guided
the system development. The requirements
of competence and confidence expected
of the learners was found to be
way above the actual level of the
learner as a result of historical
disadvantage in South Africa. The
question that needed addressing
was how, without humiliation or
costly extra lessons or training,
can the individual learner build
skill deficits in a structured directed
way? |
|
EDUTRAC has chosen blended e-learning
as its only option.
 |
Why blended
e-learning? Equity of opportunity, education
and global technology developments are
a challenge for Educational and Training
Situations as is the urgent need, identified
in extensive research, to upgrade job
skills in the workplace and skills and
grades of teachers and learners in schools,
particularly in the fields of mathematics,
science, English and ICT’s. The
advancement in technology and the vast
possibilities of multi-media educational
material make a place in education and
training (fundamental skills) for using
available resources and different more
effective methodologies to meet the specific
skill upgrade needs of individual learners. |
If electronic content, resource development,
blended methodologies and facilitator involvement
can make a difference, then learning environments
will benefit from alternative methodologies
for remediating and upgrading the learning (process).
This could include software, electronic content
and online/offline learning resources, preferably
in a blended learning situation, providing for
facilitator/teacher directed learning. In this
context the challenge would be to implement
e-education in such a way so as to provide a
system that will:
|
| • |
remediate the educational
crisis by providing a system/methodology
utilising ICT’s to enhance learning. |
| • |
provide a system of bite-sized
manageable learning that could be presented
to a learner step by step. |
| • |
test every step of the
way to reinforce learning that may have
taken place. |
| • |
apply ICT skills to access,
analyse, evaluate and communicate information. |
| • |
use ICT’s for managing,
administering, assessing, providing statistics,
record keeping, reporting. |
| • |
use ICT’s to create
a simple to use, easy to access application
that becomes part of a blended learning
process using technology as one of the
tools in the facilitator directed learning
support process. |
| • |
provide the potential
to simplify admin and assessment giving
more time to support learners. |
| • |
enable the learner to
start at their level of tested competence
and emerge as a confident competent
learner at a higher level in maths,
science and english. |
|
EDUTRAC,
meeting these ends, can be installed on your
site to meet the training / education needs
specific to your situation, for example:
|
| • |
upgrading and/or enriching
school learning |
| • |
providing workplace preparation
and job skills |
| • |
upgrading job skills |
| • |
knowledge base improvement |
| • |
practising skills learned |
| • |
applying the skills learned |
| • |
grouping lessons to align
with recognised unit standards in a workplace
or the curriculum in schools. |
|
This new pathway to learning offers
education and training that is tracked,
assessed, approved and certificated.
The learning material is easy to access.
Pre-tests determine the level of the learner
and enable the learner to start at a point
of confidence/competence, building up
skills step-by-step. A post-test, and
constant assessment demonstrate understanding
of the course material.
This learner-centred process is interactive,
self-paced can be customised to meet specific
needs. The extensive range of lessons
is grouped into Modules and Courses that
are NQF and Curriculum aligned. All prior
learning (RPL) determined by pre-testing
assessments is recognised and can be given
the necessary credit. |
